Mission Minded Students
Ambleside High School students in Grades 11 and 12 are on a mission to build houses for families in need in Costa Rica.
What Does A Build Look Like?
Each MMB Build is a three-day experience where students and volunteers come together to build a home for a family in need. Working alongside local builders and community members, you’ll help pour the foundation, raise the walls, and finish a safe, sturdy home—then personally hand the keys to the family you’ve built for.
Who Is Ambleside?
It is the mission of the Ambleside Colorado administration and faculty to provide what Charlotte Mason called a “living education,” where each student is guided and empowered to author a full and free life, a life rich in relationship to God, self, others, ideas, and all of creation. Thus, our primary concern is the kind of person each student is becoming, not the mastery of particular data or technique; for we are confident that the student who masters the art of learning will attain his full potential for mastering data and technique. The student who masters the art of relating well to God, self, others, ideas, and creation will attain the fullness of life for which he/she was created.
In stating this mission, it must be recognized that the faculty and administration will intentionally seek to foster each student’s growth in this direction. It is our aim that every student who graduates from Ambleside be characterized by psychological and spiritual maturity, mastery of the habits of a scholar, and a view of one’s life as a gift, consistently marked by purposeful and useful acts. One way we accomplish this mission is by setting aside time each spring to devote toward formative trips. On this trip, our students our students will:
Gain an appreciation of different cultures through practice of the Spanish language, which they have studied for many years
Have exposure to international life
Build a heart which reflects the compassion of Jesus Christ for the struggling, the weak, the young, the elderly, the poor; and a life which reflects an active service to others rather than self-protection and self-indulgence.

What’s a home look like?
How it impacts a family
In just three days, families receive a home that would otherwise take nearly 20 years to afford. Simply replacing a dirt floor with cement can cut childhood disease by up to 78% and boost school attendance by 25%. A safe home means better health, steady income, and hope for the future. It gives parents dignity and children a place to dream. Most of all, it’s a tangible expression of God’s love—a lasting gift that changes everything.
What a Home Comes With
Each family receives more than a house—it’s a fresh start. Every home includes groceries for three months, four beds, a kitchen with a small stove and cookware, a dining table, and electricity. Together, these essentials turn a simple structure into a true home filled with comfort, dignity, and hope.
How Do We Pick Our Families?
Each build begins with hundreds of applications from families in the community, and we carefully select those in greatest need. Families are chosen through interviews, home visits, and referrals from trusted local leaders. We prioritize homes with both parents present, children under 12, at least one working parent, and no gang involvement. Every chosen family is recommended by neighborhood authorities who know their character and believe they will steward this gift well.
